Sing, Sang, Sung – “20 Years” By The Civil Wars / “Soul Meets Body” By Death Cab For Cutie

Today hasn’t been one of the greatest of days for me. Have you ever sat down and wondered who would miss you when you’re gone? Like, truly miss you? Seriously. Beyond family, if you’re fortunate enough to have a loving family, who would miss you?

If you find yourself contemplating that without someone compelling you to, you’re probably already not having a great day. If all you can think of outside of family is one or two, or even worse zero, people, then your day isn’t going to be much better.

I suppose in good news for Tuscaloosa, both the No. 1 and No. 2 BCS ranked football teams lost today, which will very probably propel UA to the No. 2 spot below Notre Dame. Which means the hopes of Alabama getting its third National Championship in four years are still alive. So there’s that.

Still, today wasn’t a great day. Oh well. I’ll use it as fuel for the newest play I devised… A weird one, for sure. I find it odd that the more plays I come up with, the more abstract and surreal they become. Makes me wonder what’s going on with my perceptions of reality.

Anyway, I have two videos this time for a couple of reasons. First, I know how much it sucks when I put one of this stupid things up. I thoughtlessly blather on about meaningless stuff that isn’t interesting to read, then post a link to a song. As opposed to my usual thoughtful blathering on about meaningless stuff. Second, I was going to put up “Soul Meets Body” because of how my day went… I was reminded of a mix CD I was given by my best friend. I think about the music she gave me a lot. She gave me two mix CDs before things went south between us, before I fouled up everything I had with her. It’s good music, and I remember the last time I really felt happy when I hear it. I remember other stuff, too, but I try to focus on the good things.

And third, after deciding to put “Soul Meets Body” up, I remembered that some friends of mine created a music video for “20 Years” by The Civil Wars. Apparently, if people share it and like it enough or something, it may become the actual official music video for the song. My friends Abby Jones and Michael Luwoye are the principle actors in the video, and my friend Connor Simpson was the cinematographer. It’s pretty excellent, I thought. Helps that my acting friends are good at what they do (and good looking), and my cinematographer friend can apparently make beauty out of anything. So, first, watch that video. Enjoy it. Then share it. Then listen to the other song if you want. It’s a good song, I think. Maybe it’ll mean something to you.

“20 Years” – The Civil Wars

There’s a note underneath your front door that I wrote twenty years ago
Yellow paper and a faded picture
And a secret in an envelope

There’s no reasons
No excuses
There’s no secondhand alibis
Just some black ink on some blue lines and a shadow you won’t recognize

Oooh
Oooh
Oooh
Oooh

In the meantime I’ll be waiting for twenty years and twenty more
I’ll be praying for redemption and your note underneath my door
And your note underneath my door

“Soul Meets Body” – Death Cab for Cutie

I want to live where soul meets body
And let the sun wrap its arms around me
And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel, feel what its like to be new

Cause in my head there’s a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
where they’re far more suited than here

And I cannot guess what we’ll discover
When we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
But I know our filthy hands can wash one another’s
And not one speck will remain

And I do believe it’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

Where soul meets body
Where soul meets body
Where soul meets body

And I do believe it’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
